About This Quote

In this quote from the classic film Casablanca, Rick Blaine is talking to his best friend, Captain Louis Renault. They are both in Paris during World War II, and Captain Renault is a Nazi. Rick has a wife he has not seen in years because she is living in Germany with her husband who is a German officer. He wants to take her back to America because he thinks it’s safer for her to be away from all of the fighting going on.

However, Captain Renault tells him that he can't take her back because he's a Nazi as well. In the end, Captain Renault decides to let them leave together even though he doesn't trust them at all.
